Objective:

To produce functional, maturing, reproducing followers of Jesus Christ.

Responsibility:

The responsibility for discipleship is twofold:

Individual evangelist – Parent (Care giver, Direct nurture, Adoption because of difficulties, teach,

Church - (to provide the environment he needs to continue growing and serving the Lord. Environment page 112-113

Course Prerequisites:

Effective Evangelism (Matthew 13:23)
It is impossible to disciple or follows up properly on someone who has not been effectively evangelized.  A spiritually stillborn person has no new life to develop.

Heart (1Thessalonians 2:7-8)
To be a parent requires a Godlike love.  It requires a special kind of love for parents to care properly for helpless infants.  When infants are hungry or thirsty or when their diapers are dirty, they cry out for attention – regardless of the time.  Unless parents care for the child with a Godlike unselfish love, the child will not become what it was meant to be.

Perspective (Hebrews 11:10, 27)
With eternity’s values in view, we are much more willing to let God’s grace mold our lives and make us into models for discipling others.

Work (Colossians 1:28-29)
There is more glamour and adventure in evangelism than there is in developing mature disciples. Discipling requires expenditure of energy.  It is laborious, hard work, but it is also rewarding.

Relationships (2Corinthians 5:17)
Proper relationships begin with your own relationship to the Lord.  As you walk with Christ, you should be a model of dedication for those you are seeking to disciple.  It is loving, caring people – not materials and programs – that make disciples.  Non-personal media such as books and tapes are only tools.  They may supplement, but they can never become a substitute for personal communication.  Without relational involvement, your discipling will be like a robot caring for an infant.

A Testimony
Kaysha Lancaster

The Discipleship Class was a wonderful learning experience for me. It taught me the basic behind our faith and explained why we believe what we believe. We had wonderful thought provoking discussions and the teachers tried to make sure that we understood the basic. Now, I feel, I have these basics to build upon as I continue to learn and grow.  I will highly recommend anyone who hasn’t taken the course to take it. It was truly a blessing.
